Spring Detox

Please note: Consult with your health care professional for individual recommendations.  No detox while pregnant or nursing. Rapid weight loss and intense detox send toxins straight to the baby or breast milk. However, eating a healthful diet & eliminating toxins is crucial during pregnancy/lactation.


Toxin: any substance that creates irritating and/or harmful effects on our bodies, undermines our state of wellness, and stresses our normal biochemical functions.


Detox: the process of clearing toxins, mucus and congestion from the body or neutralizing or transforming them.




  • Allergenic and reactive foods (most common are dairy, gluten, soy, corn, eggs, nuts, sugar). 

  • Packaged & processed foods, additives, artificial ingredients, preservatives.

  • Hydrogenated oils & damaged fats
  • The whites: sugar, flour, bread, rice, pasteurized milk & potatoes

  • Caffeine, sugar, coffee, soda, alcohol, gluten grains, oats, GMO corn & soy, commercial meat & dairy, farmed fish, and tap water.


  • Raw and lightly cooked/steamed organic veggies- especially lots of leafy greens

  • Fresh low-glycemic fruits (berries, lemons, limes)

  • Soaked nuts & seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, flax, chia)

  • Soaked/sprouted whole grains (quinoa, millet, brown rice – keep it to a small amount to reduce carbohydrate load & always eat with a protein and/or fat to regulate blood sugar)

  • Organic eggs

  • Clean , fresh seafood

  • Organic meat

  • Sulfur foods: crucifers, whey, onions, garlic, eggs

  • Health fats: coconut oil, olive oil, grape seed oil, pumpkin oil, avocado

  • Essential fatty acids (fish and/or fermented cod liver oil)

  • Raw and fermented dairy (if tolerable)

  • Several cups of organic herbal teas (nettle, dandelion, ginger, green, peppermint)

  • Homemade bone broths

  • Fermented foods: organic miso, kimchi, sauerkraut, apple cider vinegar, yogurt, beet kvass) & take a good quality probiotic supplement.

  • Booster foods (nutritional yeast, herbs & spices, sea veggies)

  • Filtered spring water.



  • Eliminate all chemicals & toxins: household cleaners, detergents & body products (chlorine, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, etc.), pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, all pharmaceuticals/antibiotics (if possible), petrochemicals (fuel, paint, adhesives, inks, solvents, plastics, detergents, resins, dyes, etc.), smoke, molds, and heavy metals (aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead, etc.), antibiotics and growth hormones in commercial meat and dairy, and synthetic fertilizers.
  • Reduce EMF (electromagnetic field) exposure from electronics, cell phones & power lines. Spend more time outside grounding yourself in the earth!
  • Reduce STRESS! Enjoy life! Be mindful of eating & relaxation habits.
  • Meditate, acupuncture, massage, hot baths, essential oils, psychotherapy (heal unresolved trauma), groups, deep breathing, gratitude practice, exercise & sleep.



    • EXERCISE (combination of aerobic and stretching/strength training: walking, jogging, yoga, Pilates, rebounding/bouncing, etc.)

    • Sauna/steam room

    • Epsom salt baths

  • Keep Lymph Clear: dry brushing, rebounding, massage, cupping, lemon drink (see below). Note: underwire and sports bras (tight clothing) restricts the flow of lymph and blood.


  • Showers with alternating hot and cold water

  • Keep elimination pathways clear: magnesium, vitamin C, fluids & fiber to increase bowel transit time.  Enema and colonics are helpful also.


    Whole Lemon Drink (Drink upon awaking in the am 1/2 hour before breakfast- gets your digestion started off right!)

    􀁺 Chop whole lemon (peel, seeds & all)

    􀁺 1 T lecithin granules

    􀁺 1 T olive oil

    􀁺 8 oz dilute cranberry juice: Add 4 oz unsweetened cranberry juice to 28 oz water; store

    􀁺 Use 8 oz of this to blend

    􀁺 Blend in blender; drink immediately


    Specific Detox Foods:

  • Chlorophyll
  • Herbs: Dandelion (greens or a tea), burdock root, milk thistle, licorice, Oregon grape root, cilantro, and parsley
  • Fresh vegetable & lemon juices
  • Fiber
  • Homemade bone broths
  • Lemons and limes
  • Sulfur-rich foods: onion, garlic, crucifers, whey, eggs
