Reiki is becoming more recognized as an effective healing modality. Many hospital and medical facilities are now offering Reiki treatments to patients as integrative therapy.
I often get asked what Reiki is…so I’m going to explain it! I am a certified Reiki Master/Teacher, which means I have the highest certification available and can also certify others. I incorporate Reiki into most of my treatments, whether it be nutrition, wellness counseling or facials. It is such a powerful healing tool, and I encourage everyone to experience it!

What is Reiki?
Reiki is life force energy that promotes healing of the body, mind and spirit. Everything, including us, are made of energy. We are alive because of life force energy. In our bodies, the energy flows through chakras (energy centers or meridians-acupuncture), and when the energy flows freely and balanced, the body is healthy. When the flow of energy is disrupted or blocked (negative beliefs, thoughts, trauma, accidents, injuries, stress, fear, etc.), it causes reduced functioning or illness in the body. As Reiki is facilitated, it gently clears the blockages, facilitating the body’s natural ability to heal.
Where does Reiki originate?
Dr. Usui developed Reiki energy therapy in the early 1900s in Japan. He received the ability to perform Reiki and teach it during a three-week meditative period at Mt. Kurama in Japan. He formed a school where he taught many students, including 16 Master Teachers, who continued their practice. A Japanese woman living in HI, Mrs. Hawayo Takata, became a Master Teacher while visiting Japan and returned to HI where she taught Reiki. She is credited for introducing Reiki to the Western World. Although Reiki was technically founded in the 1900s, it has existed as long as the world because it is life force energy, which is universal and infinite.
Who can learn Reiki?
Anyone! The ablity is not dependent upon education, intellect or talent. It is passed from teacher to student during an attunement ceremony after a series of Reiki classes. An attunement is transferring the ability to channel Reiki energy during an individual ceremony, which clears the student’s energy centers (chakras) to enable the energy pathway.
How is Reiki done?
Reiki is experienced during a non-invasive, hands-on or off treatment while an individual relaxes fully clothed on a table or in a chair (if unable to lie down). The Reiki practitioner will place their hands in a series of positions on the client, which are addressed to heal the whole body. The Reiki energy facilitates the body’s natural healing abilities. The energy flows to wherever it is needed in the body naturally.
What will Reiki feel like?
Reiki is experienced in many different ways depending on the individual. Some clients report feeling warmth, tingling, waves of energy, bobbles, stomach gurgling, laugher, tears, sighing, deep breaths or pulsating and some report feeling nothing. Many clients become completely relaxed or even fall asleep during the treatment. Some of my clients have even had an out of body experience, made connections with loved ones who have passed and had visions.
What does Reiki do?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese modality that reduces stress, anxiety, tension, pain and inflammation while promoting relaxation, balance and facilitates the body’s natural healing abilities.
What is distance Reiki?
During Reiki class and attunement, you learn specific symbols. One of those symbols is a distance symbol. This symbol allows the practitioner to send Reiki across time and space. BY visualizing and setting the intention, practitioners can send energy to friends, families and even neighborhoods or countries. It sounds a little woo-woo does it? The Hermetic Law of Similarity states that we are all connected and all part of energy matter as a part of a whole. I typically use visualization or a photo to connect to a person. Reiki can be sent to anyone, anywhere, anytime!
Basically, I’m doing Reiki on myself all the time! I don’t even notice when I do it anymore! What a gift…
Let me know if you would like a session, in person or distance. I would love to be a part of your healing journey!
